Indie Craft

Crafts

Craft has seen a huge resurgence in recent years. This book showcases the new wave of cool crafting quirky, cutting-edge, craft-based artwork, often called Indie Craft or D.I.Y. craft. While the methods and disciplines are often traditional such as embroidery, crochet, knitting, cross-stitch, tapestry, needle felt and plush toy making the finished results are very different. Indie craft is contemporary, sometimes controversial, sometimes kitsch, ironic or humorous, often blurring the lines between art and craft. Work includes tattoo-influenced tapestry/needlepoint, graffiti cross-stitching, cross-stitching on to metal, 3D embroidery, and knitted street art. The book will appeal to the craft community, art, design and textile students, and anyone who enjoys craft-based art.
